Environmental factors effecting motor skill development Essay Example

Environmental factors effecting motor skill development Paper Environmental factors effecting motor skill development Child development is defined as to how a child abeles itself to complete more difficult tasks as they grow in age. Development is often confused with growth, which refers to a childs tendency to grow bigger in size. Parents can become concerned easily when a childs developmental skills take longer then the normal or when pressures of milestones are not satisfied on time. Developmental milestones are functioning tasks or skills that should occur at specific ages. Observing what specific environmental factors influence the placement of motor skills in the infant and toddler stages and how that compares to my findings of the children I personally documented, is what will be discussed. I searched for other scholars who have current information and academic research of similar topics finding information that was both, similar as to my own research concluding a main point that the environment of these children have an effect on how they will learn. A common topic that has been analyzed in these journals is Gross motor skill development It is a specific factor that plays a crucial role in the childs overall development and of course embodied with the environment in which the child is confined to has a profound effect to the development of these motor skills (Newton 2008) . The aim of this study was focusing on the two main environmental factors affecting children motor development. The social-cultural background where a child is brought up from, creates specific demands for his/her motor behavior. This thought can go with the fact that movement programs are very important for the development as well, such as physical education, especially if the social- cultural environment that the child is in does not require them to be very active. If the child is not pushed or has no motivation to do these obstacles, that are often taken for granted, then can cause a long term even life altering issue down the road. These are all the social norms nowadays with children. It is becoming incredibly competitive to get into colleges and other type of educational programs and it all starts from these crucial infant years where all these environmental factors that the family contributes too have a say in what a child will be like as it develops. Many of these environments are expected and often not over looked or analyzed by parents due to the reason hat the child is so young that these things don t have an impact on them yet. That is false, the first five years of a childs life are the most important in developing these motor skills for the rest of their life, and that is a fact that is not looked at close enough by parents. This is a huge developmental problem that has been happening for ever and now that there is studies and documentation proving that this here is correct, it needs to be and is being put into action. All of the environmental factors have some way played a role in the children I observed lives but because of the limited length of paper I ill discuss the two most obvious influences. This purpose of this paper is to document the environment that infants and toddlers are in and describe how these environmental factors have affected them. To begin observed a toddler and an infant but both of the same family. The two children are different ages but similar environments and upbringings. I observed the children in there home environment looking at the situation as a Mother-child interaction first then I observed the sibling vs. sibling interactions that the children tended to take a like too. Intended to allow the children on and off for two weeks at different locations and got the opportunity to observe the toddler and infant in both of these settings. At each observation site I sat with a notepad and jotted down how they interacted under these three circumstances and noted of the surroundings environments each time I observed. At the end I had a lot of notes and information to choose from, but the way that I chose what information to use was by organizing my notes i nto my three main cases then divided them into infant and toddler. All the situations that most frequently happened for each hill I used as conclusive information and discarded the minor details. The majority of the two weeks of observing the infant under these two cases my evidence appeared to be quite on point with other researchers studies. To begin, the mother-infant relationship (parent-child). Wilting my study I found when playing with each other the infant was much more responsive to this one on one play then a group of people. What noticed was the child did not do as much looking and observing like statistics show or as he did in the other cases. Even out of fifteen times the mother demonstrated what I wanted the infant to do, that involved a motor skill, most of the time picking up a block or a toy car, the child attempted the action after watching the mother demonstrate. What I noticed of those fifteen times all seven of the successful tries were because it was right in front of him. If it was far away he would try with a different object that was closest to him and wouldnt even notice that he was using a different toy. As for the toddler he paved much closer attention but on the contrary of his fifteen attempts he actually cared that he used the same exact object as his mom. For him used a test involving whoring of a ball. His mother WOUld throw the ball using different styles such as over the head, ;o hand, one had, and under arm. Eight of the fifteen attempts the toddler successfully mimicked the motor skill of which hand to use and the style in which the mom threw it, which was very surprising in this case for the reason that this usually does not develop until five or six years of age. The next case I observed was the sibling vs. sibling. Typically we think of the mother to be seen as the leader to specific child development. However, when the child has siblings the situation becomes much more influenced. Circled 1975). A childs position in the family or sex even of the sibling has a huge influence on the interactions they have. The environment used was once again the home setting but the family has there own jungle gym outside in the backyard. Seed this play set to see if these sibling influences can play a role in development of specific skills . Studies have shown that, irrespective of the age difference among the children of the family, the elder siblings lead the younger behavior (Circled 1975) and those in turn imitate elders movements (abbreviation et al. 979: Lamb 1978). As continued my research outside I watched and studied how they were interacting. The younger infant, surprisingly can walk at his age of sixteen months old. There was a set of stairs that the toddler Was walking up to get to the top Of the gym and eventually slide down the slide to only continue the process over and over again. The infant continued to watch and observe for about fifteen minutes with no signs of him motivated to make a move or give it a try. To our surprise the infant began pointing and mumbling as if he wanted to make an attempt. He was brought over to the play set, climbing up the steps and eventually we got him to go down the slide. He held his hands on the railings same position as where she did as if he was copying her techniques exact and the influence of his big sister took effect. This whole process took about twenty- twenty five minutes but once he tried it one time, the infant, like his toddler sister continued to doing the routine using similar if not the same route. All in all he was hesitant, the infant waited, studied, and then slowly analyzed the process as he did it for his first time, and then continued to go n with the process as his big sister had been. The infant and the toddler both have demonstrated there developing gross motor skills. These skills are coordinated with many other parts of the body such as the legs and arms and the ability to notice what one is doing and mimic the other is all part of the development of the these physical abilities of large body movements.

FBA Reflection Essay Example

FBA Reflection Essay Example FBA Reflection Essay FBA Reflection Essay What are the strengths of using the ABA/PIP process for Improving behavior? This Is the first time I have ever used the ABA/PIP process. I found the structure and breakdown of the assessment categories very helpful for organizing data collected. Also this process can be extremely helpful for supplying information if needed to an PIPE for the future. B. Are there drawbacks to the system? If so, what are they and what could be done instead? I think there are two drawbacks with the ABA/PIP process. The first and most important in my opinion is the length of time that is needed to complete the process. The data collection is time consuming and requires lots of documentation. The second issue I have with this process is I believe it may draw focus away from the instruction a teacher Is giving. I think that If a teacher Is trying to chart behaviors correctly mentally, this Is distracting to the teaching process. Even though It may be minimal, this distraction still exists. C. Describe your own learning In completing the p recess. I learned a lot from this assignment; however I think two aspects were extremely important to the ABA/PIP process. I learned to be very specific when describing behaviors. Explain the behaviors in a way that another person can walk into your room and be able to identify that same behavior without question. Another important thing I learned from this assignment is to only record what you observe. I have to make a real effort to not draw conclusions. The ABA/PIP is about recording observed behaviors and conclusions are not facts. : D. How does the process support student behavioral learning? The ABA/PIP supports behavioral learning because it allows the teacher and support staff to come up with ways of dealing with the behavior problem. The staff can look at the data and find different interventions to help the student extinguish the unwanted behaviors. Some of these interventions can involve changing the seating arrangement, implementing a reward system, or moving a student to a different instructional area. E. Who should be involved in the process? There are a number of people that should be involved with the ABA/PIP process. Any teachers Involved with the students education should be there. Mainly the general education and special education teachers If applicable. At least one of the students parents should be Involved. Any professionals that work with the student can be Involved such as TO, Speech and Language Therapists, Psychologists, Guidance Councilor, and Social Worker. Basically, anyone who can be helpful in the ABA/PIP process if needed. F. How would this information impact student study team decisions? The ABA/PIP impacts the student study team by offering the data needed to implement different interventions. The team evaluates the information supplied and formulates intervention to discourage the behaviors in the least possible intrusive way possible for the student. G. How would this information impact student eligibility for special education services? If a student does not currently have an PIPE the ABA/PIP can provide excellent data to begin the process. If all interventions fail and the student continues to display the behaviors, the study team can requests the student move to the next step of being tested for an PIPE. The ABA/PIP shows the students progression with the behavior and provides a lot of background information to help the PIPE process along. H. How can information from an ABA/PIP be incorporated into an PIPE? The ABA/PIP can be incorporated into an PIPE by simply attaching it to the PIPE itself. Or the ABA/PIP information can be used to help diagnose an BED student which could be part of the PIPE.

A reflection on the summer religious course Essay

A reflection on the summer religious course - Essay Example In spite of the fact that the Bible, as well as the works of the saints, was used, this course tries to be objective in order to make sure the students are able to make their decision according to their own views and not some framework that is being forced upon them. That is why this material may be interesting for those who are religious and not religious at all. Why is the course important? There are several reasons why this course is important. First of all, it provides students with a rather in-depth analysis of various texts that they would hardly be able to do. In other words, it shows the level of precision that is rarely achieved by a student while examining various materials that are connected to religion. Furthermore, it allows the students to see who the famous verses from the Old or the New Testament may be interpreted in order to get the correct meaning of them. This, in turn, teaches them to understand the texts of the religious right and develop the require objectivity of their opinion. The next reason why the course in question is important lies in the fact that it offers the different perspective on the same subject. Though Christian sacred texts are used, the course does not take a particular side in the discussion. In other words, it objectively provides the students with the information that can be later used to form their own judgments. Given the precision of the course in question as well as the abundance of the details, it surely should be recommended to the students.

Comparing Two Similar Businesses Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Comparing Two Similar Businesses - Essay Example Initially, the company commenced its operations as an online bookstore. Bezos adopted an unusual business plan initially and he did not expect a profit for first four to five years. Even though this ‘slow growth’ plan caused dissatisfaction among its stakeholders, it assisted that company to survive the dot-com bubble burst successfully. Finally, the company earned its first profit in 2001. Currently, Amazon.com is the largest online retailer in the world and it deals with a range of product lines including DVDs, CDs, MP3s, video games, software, electronics, furniture, food, jewelry, apparel, and toys (Kindle: The world’s best selling e-reader). Like Amazon.com; Borders Books, a US based company, was known for its dominance in international book and music retail sector. The company was founded by brothers Tom and Louis Borders in 1971.Later in 1996, a sister company called Book Inventory Systems was founded to support the operations of Borders Books. Initially, the Borders Books began its operations with used books and progressively it expanded the business. Although the Borders Book had been successful since its establishment, the company started to experience profitability declines since 2004. Although books and music were the core business of Borders Books, it also dealt with other business areas such as magazines, board games, encyclopedias, zunes, calendars, and gift packs. While analyzing Amazon.com, it is obvious that the company adopted Customer Relationship Management and Information Management tactics to promote its internet marketing and sales. In contrast, the Borders had not focused on a specific management approach to enhance its internet marketing operations. Borders Books just tried to increase its sales volume rather than ensuring customer satisfaction. Evidently, this difference in management approach assisted Amazon to survive all market difficulties whereas Borders Books filed for bankruptcy in 2011. As

Math Anxiety and Math Self-Efficacy Essay Example for Free

Math Anxiety and Math Self-Efficacy Essay Objective: This is a descriptive-correlational study which investigated the relationship between math anxieties, math self-efficacies and math achievements of maritime college sophomores in Iloilo, Philippines. Method: This research was conducted at the three campuses of St. Therese- MTC Colleges, namely: Tigbauan, La Fiesta, and Magdalo Sites during the first semester of academic year 2004-2005. The participants of the study consisted of 316 maritime sophomores who were chosen using proportional random sampling. The data for this study were gathered using standardized questionnaires. For mathematics achievement, the mean of their grades in mathematics subjects taken in their first year were used. Basic descriptive statistics, one-way analysis of variance, t-test for independent samples, and Pearson-Product Moment correlation test were used to analyze data. Result: The study found out that the majority of the maritime sophomores belonged to the â€Å"terminal† case of math anxiety or was on the verge of becoming impatient, yet the majority had a high math self-efficacy level. Their math achievements, on the other hand, were generally poor. They differed significantly on their math achievement when grouped according to math anxiety and math self-efficacy. Finally, negative but significant relationship existed between math anxiety and math self-efficacy and math anxiety and math achievement while math self-efficacy and math achievement were positively and significantly related. In other words, those with low math anxiety had high math self-efficacy and consequently they performed better in math than those with high math anxiety and low math self-efficacy. Discussion: Results indicated that the higher math anxiety is the lower is math self-efficacy and math achievement. In the same manner, lower math anxiety results to high math self-efficacy which in turn results to high math achievement. This is consistent with studies done by previous researchers like Richardson and Suinn, (1972), and Suinn, et al, (1972) to name a few. Although three decades and cultural differences separated the studies, still similar results have been observed. This only implies that when it comes to factors related to math performance, time and culture have no bearing on the results. Conclusion: Generally, maritime college sophomores’ math achievements were poor. However, when they were grouped according to math anxiety and math self-efficacy, it showed that those with high self-efficacy had higher math achievement than those with low self-efficacy. Moreover, those with high math anxiety had lower math achievement compared to those with low math anxiety. The study suggests that math educators must look into building students’ confidence in mathematics to overcome their anxiety and thus, improve their overall performance in math.

The Sight Of Science :: essays research papers

The Sight of Science It is a truth universally acknowledged that he whose mind is ahead of his time and above that of his peers may not be understood by his fellow people and be subject to critisizm and persecution. Galilei Galileo, Francis Bacon, and Rene Descartes were among the first to break away from the conventional views of their times to find a place for science in a society and propose the way it should be practiced. All three authors agree on some points but differe markedly on others. Bacon insists on the importa nce of experimentation and relative uselessness of senses and experience, while Decartes thinks them imporatnt for understanding of nature. Galileo stresses the need for separation of science and religion, while Descartes deems the correctness of the method of scientific thought to be most important. Yet all three writers agree that natural science should be freed of the grip of theology and human ethics, what sets them apart from previous generations of scientists and thinkers. In his Discoveries, Bacon goes at great length to discuss the influence the prescientfic mode of thinking has had on generations of scientists, and tries to Descartes asserts that the mathematical method of examining the relationship between objects and expressing them in concise formulas, applied to the entire realm of knowledge, permits him to exercise his own reason to the best of his ability. Since nothing in philosophy is certain, it is evident that he must discover his own philosophical principles. Galileo's views on science and religion, as seen from his Letter to the Grand Dutchess Christina are very radical for his times. He suggests that physical sciences must be separated from theological studies because the goals of the two disicplines are totally different: theology is concerned with salvation of the soul, while the sciences are concerned with understanding of nature. He believes that the clergy apply faith where ther is none involved -- one cannot undersand nature just by quoting the Scripture because the nature, a fruit of God's infinite wisdom., defies the simple explanation men's feeble minds attempt to find in the Bible. To truly understand nature, one has apply the little of the reason that God has given to him and look "between the li nes" for the true meaning of the Bible. There are a number interpretations one can find because the Bible is often general and simplistic; Galileo suggests that the best way to find the true meaning is to disprove the false conclusions by finding contradicions in nature, as determined by accurate experiments rather than fervent meditation. It is a job of scientists to examine nature and it is

A story About Ghost and Vampires Essay

Life of Pi’ is a story that is mainly focused on the aspect of survival. Being trapped together with Richard Parker, a Royal Bengal tiger, Pi’s odds seem to have been pulverized to nothing. Yet as the story progresses, Richard Parker begins to give Pl hope and a reason to survive. Pi’s will to survive returns; If he can survive while living together with a Bengal Tiger, he can survive anything. Although seeming a huge threat to Pl at first, Richard Parker unintentionally takes on the role of ghost and rotects Pl against the vampires that he faces, glvlng him moral support, and thus the will to survive. At the beginning of the story In part two, Pl Immediately faces his first vampire: the hyena. Being trapped on a lifeboat together with an Injured zebra, an orangutan and a hyena, It quickly becomes evident to Pl who stands at the top of the food chain. It does not take long before this vampire starts to rejuvenate Itself by feasting on Pl’s companions. Right when the hyena has set its gaze on Pi, Richard Parker (the ghost) omes into play and kills Pi’s first vampire, unintentionally protecting Pi in the process. Though scared at first, Pi learns to deal with Richard Parker over time and eventually even becomes blessed with his presence. ‘It was Richard Parker who calmed me down. It is the irony of this story that the one who scared me witless to start with was the very same who brought me peace, purpose, I dare say even wholeness. ‘ – Chapter 57, page 204. Richard Parker proves to be Pi’s motivator again and again throughout the story, especially when Pi encounters his next vampire: the Pacific Ocean. The saying; the ocean gives and takes’, can be taken quite literarily in this book. The ocean has given Pi basic offerings, food and water mainly, but seeps the life force out of him simultaneously with its strong razor sharp winds, bone crushing waves, and scorching sun. The ocean tries to break Pi’s spirit several times. For example when Pi spots a cargo ship, resulting in the slightest of hopes only to have it all taken away again as the ship passes and does not notice him. Richard Parker is yet again the one thing that keeps Pi going by merely being there and giving Pi moral support In the arkest of times. â€Å"l love you! † The words burst out pure and unfettered, infinite. The feeling fluttered my chest. â€Å"Truly I do. I love you Richard Parker. If I didnt have you now, I dont know what I would do. I don’t think I would make It. No, I wouldnt. I would die of hopelessness. Don’t give up, Richard Parker, dont give up. I’ll get you to land, I promise, I promise! † – Chapter 86, Page 294. Even though Richard Parker does not know It, he yet again serves as a tremendous motivator to Pl. Last but not least Pl meets his last vampire in Its purest form: the algae Island. Pl becomes enchanted with the Island and It almost seems Ilke he falls under some sort of spell or glamour, luring him Inside with Its delicious edible algae and fresh drinking water. Pl decides to spend his nights on the Island Instead of the boat, yet Is scared that Richard Parker might attack him in his sleep. He therefore decides to sleep In the trees and makes the gruesome discovery that the island feeds on its inhabitants at night.
